Bank CEO discusses progress in Miamisburg, new foundation

Shon Myers is president and CEO of Farmers & Merchants Bank. The Miamisburg-based bank is the No. 21 largest bank in the Dayton region with $118 million in local deposits, as well as 28 employees across four branches, according to DBJ research.

The bank has been headquartered in Miamisburg for decades. Myers discussed with the DBJ the growth underway in the city.

How would you describe the growth in downtown Miamisburg over the last few years? Miamisburg has seen a lot of investment into downtown by building owners, city planning projects, and investors that continue to make the community a better place to live, shop and dine.

I understand you’re involved in the creation of the Miamisburg Community Foundation. Explain what the foundation is and what are its goals? The recently established Miamisburg Community Foundation was created to provide an avenue in which individuals or businesses can donate funds to special projects or make improvements to the city. Projects already completed include things like restoration of a fountain and an giant art mural painting. Future projects like a dog park are already receiving funds. The foundation is looking for donors with ideas to improve the city, or just to make special donations the foundation can use as projects are underway. Families can also leave legacy gifts to the foundation.

Your company has been based in Miamisburg for decades. What is it about the community that enhances your business? As a true community bank it is an integral part of who we are to be connected to the communities were serve. Our staff volunteers on numerous boards, and volunteer their time for special projects and events. Farmers & Merchants Bank also financially supports a number of events and projects in the communities we serve. It is great having our “world headquarters” in a thriving community that is business friendly.

The city is celebrating its 200th year in 2018. What does that mean to the community? It is amazing to see so many people come together to celebrate like this. I personally led the fund raising efforts to ensure the event was paid for with private funds and was amazed at how much support we received from local businesses and individuals. This celebration has been a massive undertaking with about three years of planning. This event will bring many guests to our community and we have been polishing the town to make sure we are ready to impress. I have never seen a celebration of this scale, or a time when so many people put away politics and difference to come together as one group to work side by side and celebrate our great history and future.
